SCRIPT TRANSLATION & ADAPTATION

A literal translation of the original script is created to initiate changes dictated by DVD and broadcast standards concerning cultural acceptability and viewing requirements. This translation is annotated, defining all words, terms and phrases that might require clarification. Additionally, time code cueing of all dialogue loops is included. Only the most skilled and highly educated translators have sufficient command of both the source and target language plus the linguistic tools and vast vocabulary. Thus, a dubbed film must be "tuned" to each culture, thereby reaching a far larger audience with its message intact.

The script elements are then parsed and inserted into the MEDIACONCEPTS script template. Categories include synopsis, cast, character names [main and extra], group loops and song information, loop count per character and time code cueing.

An adaptation of the translated script is then created, utilizing the provided annotations to better grasp the meaning and nuance of the original language. The adaptation, after client approval, is the final ADR script the director will use during the recording sessions.

MEDIACONCEPTS requires all adaptors to provide an audio voiceover guide track to demonstrate his choices for wording, phrase length and rhythm for proper lip sync [flaps], allowing the director to focus on performance and delivery. All participants [translators, adaptors, reviewers and directors] must date and comment on each revision to create an accurate tracking log of all changes.

The final component of a superior adaptation involves lip synchronization, which rests on the adaptor's and director's ability to match the original onscreen mouth positions in the new language.
